Ciencia fricción. Vida entre especies compañeras

Abstract

<p>Los últimos avances en biología y ciencias ambientales demuestran que toda la vida en la Tierra es interdependiente. Según esta visión, lo vivo es un mismo y único tejido hecho de entrelazamientos entre organismos y ecosistemas, multiplicidades vivas integradas las unas en las otras.<br><i>Ciencia fricción</i> explora ese cambio de perspectiva a partir de la obra de dos científicas y pensadoras esenciales de la actualidad. La bióloga Lynn Margulis, que, con su teoría sobre el papel de la simbiosis en la evolución, sienta las bases para una nueva historia de la vida. Y la filósofa y también bióloga Donna Haraway, cuya obra indaga en la potencia narrativa del conocimiento científico y en su condición de "máquina de relatos" sobre el mundo y el lugar que ocupamos en él. Por lo tanto, la ciencia fricción del título opera en un doble sentido, según explica la comisaria de la muestra, Maria Ptqk.<br>Por un lado, señala las fricciones derivadas de ver la vida como un gran ensamblaje simbiótico y por el otro alude a la urgencia de inventar otras ciencias f(r)icciones, historias fabulatorias o especulativas que amplíen lo imaginable y nos ayuden a ubicarnos en el emergente paradigma interespecies. "Pues si es verdad, como sostienen Haraway y Margulis, que toda la Tierra está viva, es hora de abandonar el mito de la supremacía y retomar el contacto con nuestras numerosas compañeras terrestres".<br><i>Ciencia fricción. Vida entre especies compañeras</i> amplía su contenido con un ciclo de podcast en AZ Irratia. La radio de Azkuna Zentroa. A través de entrevistas a artistas y agentes locales extiende la mirada de la exposición a cuestiones como el paisaje, la ganadería, la agricultura, los hongos o la fauna y flora marinas.<br>El programa público de la exposición incluye visitas guiadas con la comisaria, María Ptqk, y actividades de mediación con el público escolar.</p>

<p>The latest advances in biology and environmental sciences prove all living things on the Earth are interdependent. According to this perspective, life is a single unique fabric comprising links between organisms and ecosystems, living multiplicities integrated in one another.<br><i>Science friction</i> explores this change in perspective via the work of two scientists and essential thinkers today; namely biologist Lynn Margulis, whose theory on the role of symbiosis in evolution lays the foundations for a new history of life; and philosopher and biologist Donna Haraway, whose work delves into the narrative power of scientific knowledge and its condition as a “story machine” on the world and our place in it. In other words, the title Science friction works in two ways as explained by the exhibition curator, Maria Ptqk. On the one hand, it points out the frictions derived from viewing life as a great symbiotic assembly whilst on the other alluding to the urgency to invent other science f(r) ictions, fables or speculative stories, enlarging the imaginable thereby helping to locate ourselves within the emerging inter-species paradigm. “So if this is true as purported by Haraway and Margulis, and that the entire World is alive, then, now is the time to discard the myth of supremacy and renew contact with our numerous terrestrial companions.”<br><i>Science friction. Life between companion species</i> expands its content with a podcast cycle on AZ Irratia. Azkuna Zentroa radio. Through interviews with artists and local agents, the exhibition's gaze is extended to issues such as the landscape, livestock, agriculture, fungi or marine fauna and flora. The public program of the exhibition includes guided tours with the curator, María Ptqk, and mediation activities with the school public.</p>
