Idoia Zabaleta is one of the most outstanding creators on the current contemporary scene and an Associated Artist at Azkuna Zentroa.
Her specialisation in ecosystems and population dynamics is the foundation of her work. Pupa, pupita, pupila. Masaje de la visión is part of her line of individual performances such as massages and other devices, based on body perception or what she calls “Dance movement 0”.
Masaje de la visión is a play in the form of a massage. An individual experience, an artistic “one-on-one” which reminds us that we continue to see in our dreams. A person who has reserved this time, someone who welcomes you and invites you to lie down on the massage table, to close your eyes and leave them behind, a touch always mediated by objects. It is a unique opportunity to receive a singular massage or to give it as a gift.
Description:
You book an appointment, arrive at the theater, and are welcomed by someone who invites you to lie down on a treatment table next to a small table holding various objects and a pill. They ask if you are warm enough or need a blanket, then tell you to let your eyes relax—to let them sink deep into your skull—and to surrender your eyelids. It is, of course, an act of generosity and a readiness for adventure. From there, the lights go down, a special massage begins, and you are reminded that you are still seeing things in your dreams. The massage will last an hour, as will the play; the dream, however, will be shorter. By then, we will have reached the port.
