Summary:
The complete collection of original watercolours created by Bilbao artist Ana G. Lartitegui for the book entitled "La nave de los necios" [The ship of fools] (A Fin de Cuentos, 2023), published in Spanish, Basque, Catalan, and Galician, is on display at the exhibition titled La nave de los necios. Una travesía de cuento en diálogo con la pintura flamenca.
Description:
The book tells the story of a ‘smart kid’ who lives in a city of fools, where he gets very bored. To overcome his boredom he decides to play a trick on his neighbour. This is the starting point for a series of events that lead to a hectic and action-packed voyage involving a broad range of different characters. Finally, in a convoluted and unexpected manner, events turn back on themselves and ultimately catch up with the person who first set them all in motion.
The text, which follows the style of oral traditions, is accompanied by a set of allusions to the satirical and genre scenes of the works of El Bosco and Brueghel the Elder or Patinir, among other masters of Flemish painting who were inspired to paint the excesses of human stupidity.
