nana, concierto para durmientes is a full-length concert for listeners awake, asleep or in a state of slumber.
The concert has a duration of eight hours and is designed to accompany the different states and phases of sleep: falling asleep, sleeping, waking up.
In nana the traditional arrangement (which places the audience seated or standing in front of the musician) changes, placing the latter lying down, eliminating the visual axis spectator-musician and thus favoring listening. On the other hand, this listening -perhaps attentive at the beginning- becomes blurred with the arrival of sleep or states of wakefulness, turning the normally conscious listening of the concert into a sensorial act that varies according to the degree of consciousness.
The public space of the concert is reconfigured as a multiplicity of private spaces (the nest, the bed of each sleeper) in which listeners can collect themselves while affirming their status as individuals. In turn, the intimacy of sleeping becomes an act of sharing and mutual trust given the closeness of the other bodies, referring us perhaps to the clan or tribe of our ancestors or simply to the summer camps of our childhood.
The concert, on the other hand, is a fully structured event in which Dr. Kurogo performs the complete program following the schedule given to the audience. The different movements and parts of the concert are divided into 90-minute periods that allude to the cycles of sleep.
Likewise, the textures and sounds vary throughout the night in an attempt to dialogue with the hours that traditional Chinese medicine grants to the activation of the different organs and viscera of the body; an attempt, by the way, more evocative and artistic than medicinal.
