Visual artist Gala Knörr, a resident artist in the Babestu programme, presents Closer, a pictorial production in the form of a large-scale installation composed of 60 Batik-patterned silk panels.
Through the use and reinterpretation of symbols, icons, deities, cryptic and activist messages reminiscent of rave culture, Gala Knörr explores the intrinsic relationship between the act of partying and the act of protesting. Closer is activated at the end of AZzabalik “through the electrifying musical performance of the British duo Gum Takes Tooth, generating a post-rave energy in the form of an avant-garde protest in which the audience can reflect on the power of bodies united in movement in a public space,” the artist explains.
