Screening followed by a conversation with Aimar Arriola
The film The Foundation (2015) takes place around Tom of Finland's Foundation in Los Angeles, USA, home to the archive of the twentieth century erotic artist and gay icon and a community of people that care for it. Not a film “about” Tom of Finland, rather it channels the experience of spending time in the place to ask questions about the body, the archive, and intergenerational transmission. The film is also the result of working through ambivalence, that is, of engaging with images, experiences and memories that represent you and not at the same time.
In this screening session followed by a conversation, between P.Staff and Aimar Arriola, this sense ambivalence is doubled in the experience of revisiting the film in the present. This event takes place within the framework of A Desire for Form (2020-2023), the public programming and research by curator Aimar Arriola developed at the center as an associate researcher.
