Pamuk, Orhan (1952- )

orhan Pamuk (Istanbul, 1952).

Trained in architecture and journalism, he began to stand out with his early works and soon became one of the literary phenomena of the new Turkish literature. His international success took off after the praise John Updike heaped on his novel “The White Castle”. Since then he has received numerous international recognitions, such as the Best Foreign Book Award in France, Grinzane Cavour Award in Italy, and the IMPAC International Award in Dublin. Moreover, his books have been translated into more than 30 languages. German booksellers awarded him the Peace Prize in 2005, and in 2006 he received the Nobel Prize for Literature.
