Ruiz, Gemma (1975- )
As a journalist and writer, she has worked at Televisión de Catalunya as a cultural chronicler, editor-in-chief and deputy head of news. Her first novel, “Argelagues” (Edicions Proa, 2016), was a literary success. In it, she narrates the story of three strong women who fought to make their way in the world of the textile factories of Vallès in the twentieth century. Her second novel, “Ca la Wenling” (Edicions Proa, 2020), published four years later, tells the story of a Chinese migrant woman and her family who arrive in the Gràcia neighbourhood to open a business. Her latest work is “Les nostres mares” (Edicions Proa, 2022). Nuestras madres (consonni, 2023) received the 2022 Sant Jordi Prize and is a literary phenomenon in Catalonia. The book celebrates a generation of women who had a lasting impact. Her works have been translated into English, Spanish, French and Italian.
