Vicente García, Amaia (1976 -)

Bilbao. Performance, installation.

Amaia Vicente has been graduated in Arts, with a Master in Feminist and Gender Studies, and a Master in Technological and Performative Contemporary Art.

She understands the body, within her work, as the cornerstone, a body transversalized by cultural and social norms. The main objective of her works, which are conceptually interconnected, is to investigate through sculptural and technological processes, the system of symbols that are related to the power system. The artist tries to deconstruct them to create a series of questions or reflections that relate body and symbol, matter and image, organism and identity, reality-unreality.

At present her work has taken a conceptual turn by also understanding the body as a generator, activator, creator within absolute media globalization. In this sense, she seeks to provoke physical responses in people that interact with the pieces through different technological devices related to sound and video.

She has obtained different scholarships for creation (Fundación de Bilbaoarte 2007, 2010 and 2015, Diputación de Bizkaia (2012-2013) and exchange (Museo Kunsthaus, Bregenz, Austria, 2007).

In 2015 she has exhibited individually in Torre de Ariz, Basauri with the exhibition "Paradise". In 2013 and 2014 she exhibited collectively in different halls and galleries in Austria (Vienna, Hard, Bregenz), in 2014 for AKME, “No Cost”, as a guest artist, (AKME and UPV-EHU), in Connsoni, Bilbao. In 2011, PARANINFO OF THE UNIVERSITY OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY, organized by the feminist collective “Erreakzioa- Reacción”, in Bilbao. That same year she exhibited at the SALA REKALDE, “Bodies Unlimited”, with the Sub-rosa collective, Bilbao. In 2009 MUA, ALICANTE UNIVERSITY MUSEUM, Alicante.
