Summary:
Caspervek premiered their soundtrack for Buster Keaton's film Sherlock Jr. in 2016, for a trio comprising violin, percussion and piano.
In 2024, on the occasion of their performance during the Teatro Real season in Madrid, the composer Brais González modified the score adding new instruments as well as new musical sections to the work. This resulted in a work for flute, clarinet, trombone, percussion and piano, which explores the synchronic elements of Buster Keaton’s physical comedy.
Following last season’s success, the Galician ensemble returns to Azkuna Zentroa with a soundtrack in line with their usual approach of composing comedies by alternating swing and classical jazz, while also adding a few twists of the screw to the music style of detective films.
Description:
Sherlock Jr (The modern Sherlock Holmes) is one of Buster Keaton’s most famous films, which parodies the popular detective novels back then (especially, the style created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle). During the 47 minute film, Keaton finds himself involved in an intriguing plot with a jewellery theft sub-plot. Only one detective in the city is capable of resolving this case, namely the brilliant Sherlock Jr.
