Wüste, Markus (1970- )

Germany (1970), sculpture.

He studied Arts at the University of Berlin, where he met Yoshimi Hashimoto, who fostered his interest in sculpture. In his work with solid, heavy and resistant stone, he always tries to extract the impossible and paradoxical from the material: movement, dynamics and illusion.

The element of time is inscribed in the imperishable stone to explore the relationship between sculpture and space, the installation and the moment that surrounds it. In the creative process, a language is developed that does not deal with perfection or the confusion that imitation can generate, but rather encompasses the appearance of things, the feeling for materiality, its recognition value and the atmospheric effect inside the room. material. The processing of the stone always reveals its surface and its depth at the same time.

In 2001 he participated in an exchange program to visit the School of Fine Arts in Athens and finished his studies at the University of the Arts in Berlin with a master's degree with Prof. Rebecca Horn. In 2005 he received a grant from the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation Berlin.

Markus Wüste has constantly focused on stone sculpture and experimented with it exploring movement, kinetics, process and the representation of modern materials in connection with expressive material conversion. He has held several solo exhibitions in Germany, Italy and Spain. Lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
